Dev Update

Hey everyone.
This is the programmer for Midnight Paradise, Maim Lain.
For those who don't know me, after Midnight Paradise was ported to RenPy I helped with the code in the past few updates, and when work started on 0.6 I became responsible for all the programming in the game.

Most of you were probably expecting an update to be released around now instead of this post, and unfortunately I'm here to let you know that Lewdlab and I need a little bit more time to work on the update. (pepehands)

All of the new 0.6 scenes, renders, and animations are finished, but there's a lot more happening in this update than just new scenes. It might seem weird that this update has taken so long to release compared to the past few updates, so this dev update is going to hopefully explain the scale of this update.

The first thing I'd like to let everyone know, since Lewdlab may not have communicated this very well, is that this update is not a normal update.
There are a lot of new scenes in the update, around double the amount of renders and animations than most past updates, but there's a lot more that's been done in this update besides just new scenes. This update isn't like the 0.4 or 0.5 updates where only new events were added to the game. And this update isn't even comparable to the 0.3 update, which was the update where the game engine switched to RenPy (but despite the engine switch and new UI, nothing about the game actually changed in that update).

The 0.6 update changes and improves everything, and all of the code in the game has been rewritten to allow these changes. I only have time to mention a few of them, so here are some big ones:

Navigation & rooms:

The new navigation system we've implemented was shown a couple dev updates ago. So there's no more clicking rectangles at the top of the screen to move places. You can now click and move around the house naturally.
But who cares about navigation if there's nowhere to actually go? Personally, previously Midnight Paradise sometimes felt like a doorknob clicking simulator, going from door to door around the house clicking the tiny doorknobs to try to trigger events.
That's why in this update we've added 14 new locations! You can now actually enter every room and location in the game. You'll see different things there depending on the time of day and other factors, which leads into the next new feature.





Character schedules:

Something else we've implemented is character schedules. Before it was only possible to interact with characters once per day. Joyce and Ruby in the kitchen, Isabel on the couch, Ms. Jane in her office, etc.
In this update we've given each character a schedule of places they will be based on the time of day, so you can now see and interact with characters all around the house at different times of the day.
For example, Joyce can be seen: doing yoga in her room (and clicked so you can do yoga with her), in the kitchen, working from home, or in her bed at night.





Scene gallery:

The scene & extras gallery has also been completely remade. The design and navigation has been improved, the gallery is now sorted by character, thumbnails are higher resolution, and scenes that are new in the latest update are now highlighted so you can easily find which scenes are new.



A ton of other improvements:
There's waay too many other things to mention that have been improved. If you ever felt like you were "stuck" trying to trigger events or progress the story, that's been fixed now. The flow of story progression has really been improved by removing many gratuitous event trigger requirements.
The map screen has been improved, it's now possible to repeat previous massage, yoga, and tutoring scenes, and there were even events in the game (that I didn't code, so I don't take the blame :p) that had extended scene versions that were always skipped and impossible to see due to bugs in old code that have now been fixed.
There's really too much to mention and cover in this post.
It's possibly my fault that the update is being delayed. I've been very ambitious with the improvements I've added to the game, so we need just a little bit more time to add a few more things will really make parts of the game better, and to also ensure that there aren't any bugs caused from rushing out a release.

I'm sorry for the delay. Who would have thought? Hopefully we can leave these behind with the new year soon.
Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know that I've been trying to improve my part as well, and not just with the amount of new renders and animations. I did an effort to improve my writing, especially during lewd scenes. I tried to write better, longer and more descriptive stuff. Hopefully you'll notice at least a tiny bit of step up in quality.

A quick update

Hey everyone

So I just wanted to let you know that I need a couple more days.
I usually judge how long something would take and then plan accordingly. But development is not like that. Something always goes wrong, something always has to be redone or adjusted.

Some of you veteran guys who are here since the early days know that each and every release consisted of doing all-nighters and 18 hour workdays before, and ended up with some silly bugs that could have been prevented easily with a bit more time. These happened because of the things unaccounted for during planning.
Then after I was done and released, I wouldn't do anything for the next couple of days because I was trying to put as much distance between me and my computer as I could of course, after spending a 100 hours working in front of it that week.

So this time I have decided I'll instead I'll take those extra couple of days and not work to exhaustion. You've been waiting for quite a while and I hope this few extra days won't matter as much to you as it does to me and the development process.

I just want to make something clear. To those of you who were expecting it this month and can't pledge in December.

Everyone who has had an active pledge in the 10$ tier or above in November will get the 0.6 update in December via private message.
Hang tight for a couple more days, this will be out next week. I posted a little sneak peak of our new character during the night.

Dev Update

Hey everyone

Just a quick update with some previews.
0.6 is coming at the end of the month.

After that in December I'll be releasing a Holiday Special similar to what I did with DoD 2 years ago.

To address the long wait:

I've been focusing more on my personal life lately because of certain events I do not feel comfortable disclosing. I've seen some confusion in comments, so just to be clear, I was working - but not as much as I usually do. And when I was working, I wasn't as efficient as I usually am.
I can completely understand if you're upset I haven't been fast enough with this release. If you are upset, I apologize.
Seems like I've been bitching a lot this entire year. I guess I've had. Trying to get out of the pit but I keep falling back in. But I'll keep trying.

To all of you who have been patiently waiting and encouraging me - Thank You!
It means a lot to me. It helps me keep going. Thanks for believing in me.

Hopefully the ladies above will soften your hearts a bit (and 'harden' something else).

Here are some new previews from 0.6



Natsuko appears again, probably to say some weird and cryptic things to Connor like last time. But their conversation didn't end so badly last time, we'll see what she has in store for our MC this time.

You can see a preview of Isabel's new night scene as well. This will be animated too.

And you can also see a preview of a scene with Mrs Harding. Connor is passed out on the couch with a sizable tent erected below his waist. She looks a bit surprised and... curious!

Midnight Paradise 0.6 Previews #1

Hey everyone



Here are some previews about the upcoming release.
I'm gonna tell you a bit about these scenes since I haven't posted in a while.

Isabel and Connor are watching something on the TV... well, this scene is interesting because it will have 3 variations/options.
One of the Patrons who;s been here since day 1 suggested something. He told me the last scene with Isabel in 0.5 could have fit better if it was preceded by one more scene leading up to it. After giving it some thought, I think he's right. So the first and second variation of this scene will be placed before Isabel's 0.5 scene - but this is only for the new players. If you've already played the 0.5 release, no worries, you'll get the scene normally.
And once that's done, the third variation will be even more hot and spicy, that comes after another scene of Isabel in 0.6

Well, sorry if this is confusing, it's gonna be a hot scene, that's what matters:)






As you can see the new character is introduced, Connor will meet her here as well. Not gonna tell you much about her yet, though.

Ms Jane is back from sick leave and is back to teaching. However, Connor might be facing a different situation with her this time around.
She will also get some different kind of content than tutoring, I'll post more previews about that later.

And lastly we can see Ruby is in a bit of a tight spot, she's stuck in the changing room while talking to the store manager, trying to hide the fact that she's in there with Connor, but he isn't making it too easy.
This scene will also have multiple options.
There is an option I'd like to include but that wouldn't fit the story at that point, but it would look good and it'd be hot... Maybe as an extra?

Anyways, I hope you like the previews. You can probably tell from what I wrote above that I'm doing more scenes in this release for everyone, and more variations/options. More on this in the next Development Update, coming in the next couple of days.

In the past couple of updates the formula was that I made a Storyline scene - as I called them - for the lead characters, then made Activity scenes like the massages and yoga, and then made some Main Story scenes.
This has advanced the Main Story somewhat faster in 0.4 and 0.5 while kept the Storylines on a slow burn.
In 0.6 however, I tweaked the formula a little bit, but the main difference is that I increased the number of scenes all around.

So each main lady is getting - at least - 2 storyline scenes (some of them more). This includes Mrs Harding, Isabel, Ruby, Ms Jane and now also the new blonde character I have revealed before, and the other new character that's yet to be revealed.
New massage and hot yoga as well. And of course the heat is turning up and the story goes on!

I'm also thinking about a system where each repeatable scene like massage, yoga or for the tutoring rewards can be chosen in a menu. So for example, if you complete a new round of tutoring, you can choose the reward Ms Jane gives you from the ones you have already unlocked, instead of the game defaulting to the "highest tier" and so on. Hopefully this can make it into this release.

I'm also including more choices to the scenes - for example when you are hiding in the dressing room with Ruby, you will have options to go for - khm, her upper body, or lower body. Or in another scene you can choose if you like feet or you aren't into them, so the scene will have another erotic way of playing out.

I'm also putting in more night scenes this time. It's been a while since I touched them.
I want to restructure them as well, so when the game starts, Connor isn't all up in there shoving his cock between asscheeks and the like but instead these scenes will have a normal progression. This has been criticized before, so I hope this will make these scenes 'feel' better this way.

Oh and the new night scenes won't just be for our existing cast, the new characters will get some steamy night action.
With the usual animations, of course.

As you can probably guess this is going to be a bigger update than usual. The biggest update yet both in terms of renders and animations.
